We’ve been working really hard on our SEO here at www.hostedgameservers.com. We read tons of articles and try to put as much useful information (about things like tick and fps rates) on our site as possible.
It’s paying off. We just found out that we’re on the first page (rank 7) for ‘low pings‘ as well as first page for ‘low ping game servers‘.

HostedGameServers.com beats GmeServers.com in website speed.
I mean, it happens like once a month, right…? Steam explodes and we have to sit here waiting to start our game server while they piddle-pat around fixing it. Haven’t they heard of a QA process?!
Well anyway, when you run an update, you get something like this error below.

Then, when you connect via your game client, you get this:

First, I tried a file system verify which made no difference. Then, I tried deleting .blob files and running an update. That didn’t work either. Finally, I installed the entire server fresh from Valve using the steam binary. That also made no difference.

The subscribe buttons on the site were just bumped up to CSS3 from flat red boxes.

The Hosted Game Servers Status Feed has had a new theme applied… complete with custom wallpaper.
We just took the plunge and removed meta keyword tags from all of our pages. Oh lord.
Google, we can’t thank you enough. We’ve been selling our sweet game server hosting thats better than the second coming like good boys and you’ve seen us fit to start re-listing us in results. We’ve got some really good results, but… uh… not our favorite ones.

The site has been updated with a bunch of little polishes. The footer links are inline links to the features page, the twitter page is added to the contact methods, a free game server page is added and some buttons to the front page are looking nicer than before.
Theres a ton of other changes, but who can remember all that?!
One day, about half way through last month, there was a little tag missing from our sitemap.xml file. Google crawled it and then this happened to our search impressions:

So, be warned… if you ever get your site map wrong and Google crawls it, it will nuke you from the face of the internet. How do you recover? Backlinks are really the only way. If you fee inclined to help us regain our placements, you can always advertise us for free server credit!
