So if you are hosted on Zeta… please move the hell off of it. It’s dying. Seriously, we’re trying to get more hardware installed but this box ended up taking one too many. I opened up some space on an East coast server, so if you don’t mind… we would be very happy to see people use the ‘Migrate Server’ feature and move over there!

Gamma takes one in the face and goes down like a champ

Gamma has been floating a long just fine until the recent Minecraft updates. After those updates filled out, our memory use increased quite a bit… Gamma ended up going over the limit and fell on its face.

You can move off of Gamma. We have space for you in that region ready to go. All you have to do to move is write support at support@hostedgameservers.com and request to be moved to Beta. Your IP/Port will change, but your lag will go away!

Sorry guys! Restart your servers.

Second kernel build attempt for beta tomorrow night.

At 12am tomorrow (EST GMT-5) we’re going to attempt to switch to our custom kernel build on beta again. This will result in another outage, probably around 30 minutes or so!

We’re sorry in advance. Make sure to save your files and re-start your server after the reboot. We estimate about 30 minutes down time on this one… but it will probably be much less.

This should be the last time we bring this box down for a long time.

Thanks for understanding, everyone on beta.

Update: Kernel is updated and running smooth. Enjoy the better fragging!

Beta is going down for Kernel hacking tonight at 12am EST (GMT-5)

We’re going to bring beta down and do some kernel hacking tonight at 12am EST (GMT-5). This means your Minecraft servers will be halted and its possible you’ll have data loss. Make sure you do a save-all on your servers tonight before they are brought down.

Minecraft saves every 15 minutes or so on its own, but so you dont loose that work, please do frequent manual saves.

Users on beta will need to restart their server after the down time is complete. This post will be updated with the results. With any luck Beta will be able to support 1000 FPS source servers!

UPDATE: We were unable to get a hacked kernel to boot! We’ll be trying again another time… Thank you for understanding!

Yeah, so the Omega outages were from two IPs DoSing it during the night. Way to try and ruin Christmas. JESUS WAS BORN. DOES THIS MEAN NOTHING TO YOU? Anyway, we blocked the IPs and we’ll keep on truckkin’.Yeaaaa hawwww….

IPs have been complained about formally to their corresponding abuse contacts. I wonder if one of these was the attacker’s house and the other was his server somewhere. haha!

Beta going down for memory upgrade

Beta was provisioned with four gigs of memory, which is not enough. We’re having the box fixed up and moved to eight gigs but that means they will be powering off the box in a moment. We’re sorry, but we have to get the memory in there.

Omega rolls over :-(

Omega hath died. No, this does not mean that the second coming of Jesus has ended. This just means you’re going to have to restart your servers on Omega.

We’re not entirely sure what happened yet, but whatever it was, the NIC wouldn’t even ping. It was stone dead. A quick power cycle on the connected power strip brought it back up… we’ll keep an eye on it.

Omega had what looks like a NIC driver explosion that caused it to be unresponsive. If your server was hosted there, you’ll have to login to the panel and start it up again.
